Well thats a funny looking GenCoupe... story time

So as most of you know I was to take delivery of a 2011 GenCoupe Track today. Funny how the Stringbean is still sitting in my parking spot.

Thursday I ventured over to my local dealer to take a look at said GenCoupe, very happy with it, excited it was a track edition and pretty legit sports car. We discussed numbers, I let them know I wanted to sleep on it and also check out another GenCoupe at a different dealership. The Track was white 3.8 with 40k miles but looked brand new and was certified. The other was a gray Grand Touring 2012 but only had 6k miles. Price was nearly the same.

"Oh you know the Track has different brakes, shocks, limited slip diff, etc etc. Way better than the Grand Touring." (summarized points made) So I agreed to go with the Track and all of the paperwork was completed. They had to replace a foggy tail light and detail it so I'd be back saturday to pick it up.

Here's where things get dicey... called Allstate to have it added to my plan. What trim level is it- Track- well we only have Coupe and Grand Touring.. sometimes it doesnt show all trims. Ok.... sure no problem. Being the mod-friendly person I am I've been looking up all sorts of upgrades. Odd, all of the Track editions have wings and HID's. Mine doesnt. So I called and told them what I noticed and they confirmed it was a track.

Today I head up there and before I took the keys asked for paperwork that confirmed it was a Track and not a Grand Touring. If I wanted a Grand Touring I'd go get the 6k mile one. 30 mins later and they own up to it not being a Track and want to know what they can do. I forgot what they offered but I think it was a spoiler like the track has a few hundred dollars.. nevermind the LSD and HID's.. plus the resale value should I sell it in the future. Now it was more so principle because they used the Track as a reason for me not to go look at this other GenCoupe elsewhere.

In the end they did the right thing and took it back. As to whether or not they knew it was a GT and not a Track? Who knows. But the contracts were voided (though the sales manager got rude with me when I asked for a voided copy of the contract.)

So the search continues... *sigh* I need a drink.

That's why you use a VIN decoder. It's how I found out what options my car has.

Aaaand this is why Hyundai still has a long way to go. Dealership experience is still subpar.

Its out there at the other dealership. Im debating on whether or not I want to go look at it. Sort of feel like this is a sign to wait.

No... I think I'm going to wait. Feels like this is a sign to do so.

Probably wait til later in the year and see what else pops up as far as used 2nd Gen GenCoupes or some Coyote Mustangs now that the 6th gen is out.

If you really wanted the GenCoupe I'd say go get it. Unless it was the added bits on the Track that you wanted. But if you feel like you should wait then I'm not going to tell you not to.

Also they had plenty of new GenSedans and a few Equuses Equi Equus's more than one Equus. They're pretty... but Im not sure if they warrant that price tag.

Im giving them benefit of the doubt that they didn't know it wasn't a Track... but then again I don't have the best impression of car dealers or salesmen to begin with.

The spoiler is meh, but factory HID headlights and Limited Slip Dif are kind of big. I may be kicking myself later on for skimping on those.

They don't. That's what depreciation is for my friend. I've actually seen only 1 out in the wild. I'd think about getting one if I wanted complete anonymity (it just looks like a giant genesis, it's a cloaking device in car form)
